While I don’t claim to be an expert in AI by any stretch, my tenure in the technology realm spans over three decades. I’ve witnessed the unfolding of technology across various phases, having been entrusted with technology leadership roles in numerous startups. Additionally, I’ve contributed to major corporations within the Fortune 100 and spearheaded various federal compliance projects throughout my career.

Well before my professional journey soared in early 1990’s, I foresaw a future where the internet would amass an exhaustive compilation of everyone’s activities, creating a data repository so immense that storage solutions would pose a challenge. Envisioning a world where cash transactions and traditional book purchases would become obsolete once all information was digitized, it’s surreal to witness this reality unfolding three decades later!

Witnessing the remarkable adaptability of digital storage to accommodate diverse needs is something I never anticipated. My path has intertwined with exceptional Data Scientists—individuals who graduated from prestigious institutions and now contribute to cutting-edge projects in ML, AI, NLP, and LLM. Despite resistance and denial, it’s inevitable that AI will eventually replace certain occupations, particularly in the blue-collar sector to begin with. Machines and AI exhibit superior speed, precision, and consistency, devoid of the challenges associated with human “complaints and labor disputes“.

Not everybody likes to hear this…

Feel free to harbor disdain towards my perspective, but if the current era doesn’t reveal the shift, rest assured your offspring will witness it. The trajectory of technological evolution is bound for a state where human intervention becomes indispensable solely in instances necessitating emotions or feelings.

Advancements in technology are rapidly propelling us toward an era characterized by automation and artificial intelligence. As machines and algorithms continue to refine their capabilities, routine and analytical tasks are increasingly being delegated to them, leaving humans to focus on areas that demand emotional intelligence, creativity, and subjective judgment. This trend is not merely speculative; it is a foreseeable consequence of the ongoing integration of technology into various aspects of our lives.

The automation of repetitive tasks and the efficiency of AI in handling data-driven decision-making processes are clear indicators of a trajectory where technology assumes a more prominent role in routine activities. However, tasks that involve empathy, complex emotional understanding, and nuanced human interactions are likely to remain within the domain of human capability for the foreseeable future.

The inevitability of this transformation prompts reflection on the nature of work, education, and the skills that will be vital in a world increasingly shaped by technological prowess. While the prospect of reduced human involvement in certain domains may be unsettling, it also offers an opportunity to redefine and prioritize the uniquely human qualities that technology cannot replicate.

In essence, the assertion that technology will evolve to a state where human involvement is primarily sought for emotional and empathetic dimensions is not a dismissal of the value of humanity but rather a recognition of the expanding capabilities of technology and the need for a harmonious integration of human and machine intelligence.

While I hold Elon Musk in high regard, he is indeed correct to a certain degree. However, it’s crucial to acknowledge that emotions and feelings, inherently human qualities, remain irreplaceable by any form of artificial intelligence.

IBM CEO says AI will impact white-collar jobs first, but could help workers instead of displacing them.

Me personally, it’s already effecting the blue collar workforce.

As we’ve observed, massive multi-billion dollar shipping terminals are predominantly operated by robotics and AI, mirroring the advancements in logistics. The capability of processing hundreds of millions of items in inventory and determining their optimal routes within seconds is truly beyond measure. These roles used to employ hundreds of thousands of employee’s, now lost and never to regain.

We all will need to learn to adapt or will get left behind

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into various aspects of our lives is becoming increasingly pervasive and learning how to adapt to AI is essential to avoid being left behind for several reasons:

  • AI technologies are advancing rapidly. Those who understand and adapt to these advancements are better positioned to leverage the benefits they bring. Staying abreast of technological changes ensures that individuals can harness AI for productivity, efficiency, and innovation.
  • Many industries are undergoing transformations due to automation and AI. Jobs that involve routine, repetitive tasks are increasingly being automated, creating a demand for skills that complement AI capabilities. Individuals who adapt and acquire skills that complement AI are more likely to thrive in the evolving job market.
  • Nations and businesses that embrace and integrate AI technologies gain a competitive edge. The ability to utilize AI for strategic decision-making, process optimization, and innovation enhances economic competitiveness. Failing to adapt may result in economic stagnation or decline on both individual and societal levels.
  • AI has the potential to significantly improve efficiency and productivity in various fields. Those who understand how to integrate AI into their workflows can achieve higher levels of output with fewer resources, whether in business, research, or daily tasks.
  • While AI excels at certain tasks, human skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and complex problem-solving remain invaluable. Learning to collaborate with AI allows individuals to focus on tasks that require uniquely human qualities, fostering innovation and intellectual advancement.
  • Many industries are undergoing digital transformations, and AI is a key component of this shift. Individuals who learn to adapt to AI are better positioned to navigate these changes, whether in healthcare, finance, manufacturing, or any other sector undergoing disruption.
  • AI can contribute to improving the quality of life by automating mundane tasks, providing personalized recommendations, and enhancing healthcare diagnostics. Adapting to AI means individuals can enjoy the benefits of these advancements, leading to a more comfortable and efficient lifestyle.
  • Understanding AI is crucial for addressing ethical concerns related to its use. Learning how to adapt involves being aware of the ethical implications of AI, ensuring responsible and fair practices in its development and deployment.

I’ll be frank—I have major concerns for my children. A fear that my kids might not be adequately prepared to adapt, lacking the technical acumen required for the challenges ahead.

Elon Musk’s assertion about a shift towards “universal high income” rather than universal basic income resonates with me.

I genuinely believe that the prospect of widespread prosperity hinges on people’s ability to embrace and adapt to the inevitable changes that lie ahead. Be prepared, start to adapt.

I believe that government services should take the lead in adopting technological advancements, starting with entities like the DMV or US Postal. While there may be instances of false positives, it’s worth noting that in the current world, false positives and scams are already prevalent. It’s nothing new… It’ll be easier to catch with a machine than a normal human being.

Have you ever experienced the frustration of waiting in line for hours only to spend a mere 5-10 minutes on your transaction? Meanwhile, employees engage in casual conversations and handle paperwork leisurely, leaving us standing or waiting patiently for our turn.

Processes such as driver’s license issuance, fingerprinting for identification, face recognition, and the assessment of driving history adhere to specific policies. Even human operators follow these policies without emotional attachments.

Just like postal workers, county employees, and others, every task follows a set policy, and the majority of processes are already digitized. In the near future, we’ll likely find ourselves collaborating with machines, with a few humans overseeing the transactions.
